Meet Bryce
In November 2022, Lia and Fred tragically lost their 21-month-old daughter, Reese, to sudden cardiac arrest. Days later when her brother Bryce spiked a persistent fever, and a heart murmur was detected, the cardiology team at CHEO mobilized. This led to the diagnosis of a rare genetic syndrome which causes dangerous arrhythmias that can be triggered by fever, exhaustion and dehydration. CHEO’s intervention saved Bryce’s life. Now a bubbly six-year-old, Bryce has an implanted heart monitor in his chest, carries a defibrillator in a backpack wherever he goes and takes antiarrhythmic medication for further protection.
